#DYK: Transmission voltages usually run between 69,000 volts & 500,000 volts 😮 Compare that to the voltage of your home’s electrical sockets: 120 volts for most outlets & 240 volts for a clothes dryer. So yeah, transmission lines pack a big punch!
About us
Advancing smart energy to provide safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy and energy services for our customers and the communities we serve. With a history of more than 130 years of service to the Greater Philadelphia region, PECO has a long-standing commitment to a culture of excellence. Formerly, Philadelphia Electric Company, PECO was incorporated in 1902 but finds it origins in The Brush Electric Light Company of Philadelphia, which was formed in 1881. One of the oldest and largest utility companies in the United States, PECO has its origins in the work of Thomas Edison. As invention brought new conveniences, population grew and industry developed, PECO grew to meet the increasing demand of its customers. The history and evolution of electricity and natural gas development, distribution and consumption suggests that demand for both will continue to increase. PECO is the steward of efforts to help customers make better choices about energy usage and is focused on setting the example as an environmental leader. Our company's legacy is one of innovation and commitment to learning. It is also about a commitment to people, our customers.

I was honored to speak at the Congreso de Latinos Unidos gala this past weekend, which recognized the organization's 47 years of service in #Philadelphia. A longtime community partner of PECO, Congreso has been a steadfast beacon of empowerment for the Latino community, and I am proud to work alongside such an incredible organization. Growing up, I learned firsthand that community is one of the most critical elements of success. It takes a network of support to achieve your dreams—and Congreso is helping to provide opportunities for the Latino community in Philadelphia through workforce development, education, health, housing, and parenting programs. Congratulations on 47 years! I look forward to working together to continue powering our communities and helping our customers see a brighter future.

PECO employees engaged with almost 100 youth and their police mentors/advisors to learn about PECO career opportunities at the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia Annual Career Expo. Students also attended a session on Social Media Do’s & Don’ts in the workforce, led by one of PECO’s Sr. Social Media Specialist!

April is significant for many reasons – flowers in bloom, warmer weather and one step closer to summer – and at Exelon, April also marks the cherished tradition of National Volunteer Month. As a child, I was taught that we are blessed to be a blessing to others. Throughout this month, the Exelon community is finding ways to help others. The Public Policy and External Affairs (PPEA) team hosted events across the enterprise, with the strong support of our Baltimore Gas and Electric, ComEd, PECO and Pepco Holdings colleagues. At the heart of these activities lies a central theme – uplifting women and families most in need. When we uplift women, we uplift families. Fifty-five team members volunteered time at N Street Village in Washington, DC, PathWays PA in Philadelphia, Sarah's Circle in Chicago and Paul's Place, Inc. in Baltimore, where we helped with meal services and “shopping” for those in need of clothing, cleaned out closets and helped with outdoor repairs, all with organizations dedicated to empowering women and families in the communities we serve. Thank you to the team for joining me in these meaningful service events. #NationalVolunteerMonth

It was a privilege to volunteer alongside other PECO employees at MANNA today! Collectively, we chopped about 400 pounds of potatoes and packaged more than 1200 pre-cooked, nutritious meals to help meet MANNA’s mission to use nutrition to improve health for people with serious illnesses who need nourishment to heal. Thank you to all who volunteered in honor of National Volunteer Month to support an amazing organization that makes such a positive impact in the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas (www.mannapa.org)! #MANNAPA #PoweringCommunities
